Finding halal food shouldn't require a leap of faith.

Yet for millions of Muslims in Canada, it does. Every single day.

The problem is real

Google Maps will tell you a restaurant is “halal” because someone tagged it once in 2019. Zabihah.com hasn't updated half its listings in years. Yelp doesn't even have a halal filter. And that new shawarma place on your block? Good luck figuring out if they're actually zabihah, halal-friendly, or just marketing to Muslim customers.

The result: you end up relying on word of mouth, WhatsApp group recommendations, or just… guessing. For something as fundamental as what you eat, that's not good enough.

What we're building

HalalNear.me is a halal food directory that prioritizes verified data and transparency. Every listing includes a halal confidence indicator — so you know exactly how a restaurant was verified and what level of trust to place in it.

🟢

Halal Verified

Strong evidence of halal practice — certification, owner-confirmed zabihah, or multiple verified community reports.

🟡

Likely Halal

Moderate evidence — listed as halal on Google, menu claims halal options, but no independent verification yet.

Unverified

Listed in our dataset but halal status hasn't been confirmed. We include it for completeness — always call ahead.

Our data

We aggregate from multiple sources — Google Places, community submissions, and manual verification — then cross-reference and score each listing. No single source is perfect, so we layer them.

Every business in our directory has been processed through our enrichment pipeline: website verification, menu analysis, review scanning, and halal confidence scoring. We're not just scraping and dumping — we're curating.

Why it matters

Halal isn't just a dietary preference — it's a deeply held conviction for nearly 2 billion people worldwide. In Canada, the Muslim population is one of the fastest-growing communities, yet the tools available for finding halal food are embarrassingly outdated.

We believe that if you care about what you eat — and where it comes from — you deserve better than a stale Google tag from five years ago. You deserve data you can trust, presented with honesty about what we know and what we don't.

Community-driven

The best halal data comes from the community itself. If you know a spot we're missing — or if something in our data is wrong — we want to hear from you. Every correction makes the directory better for everyone.

HalalNear.me is built in Vancouver, Canada. We're a small team with a simple goal: make halal food discovery trustworthy, transparent, and actually useful. No ads cluttering the experience. No pay-to-play rankings. Just honest data.
